Alllllll sorts of info!

Hm. There's something else I should list. Wonder what that might be. Oh yes! THE SCHEDULE!!!

  • The overall schedule for all fencing events

  • NBC's full TV and online viewing schedule for fencing
How about the tableaus? (No pools, they go straight to DEs -- their 'pools' are the entire season!)

    • Men's individual epee Gold: Matteo Tagliariol, Italy - Silver: Fabrice Jeannet, France - Bronze: Jose Luis Abajo, Spain

    • Women's individual epee Gold: Britta Heidemann, Germany - Silver: Ana Maria Branza, Romania - Bronze: Ildiko Mincza-Nebald, Hungary

    • Men's team epee Gold: France (Jeannet, Jeannet, Robeiri) - Silver: Poland (Andrzejuk, Motyka, Wiercioch, Zawrotniak) - Bronze: Italy (Carozzo, Confalonieri, Rota, Tagliariol)

    • Women's team saber Gold: Ukraine (Kharlan, Khomrova, Pundyk, Zhovnir) - Silver: China (Bao, Huang, Ni, Tan) - Bronze: USA (Jacobson, Ward, Wozniak, Zagunis)

Final USA fencing medal count:

  • Gold: 1 (WS)

  • Silver: 3 (WS, WTF, MTS)

  • Bronze: 2 (WS, WTS)

Not too shabby considering prior to 2004 our most recent medal had been a bronze in MS in 1986! And our total medal count since 1896 -- including men's single sticks! -- was 12 prior to this year.

No, I didn't forget women's team epee or men's team foil. Three weapons + two genders + individual + team = a whole lotta events/medals. The IOC is constantly looking to trim old sports that don't generate much income to make room for new revenue makers. And fencing is always on the chopping block. The best way to convince them that fencing needs to stay? Watch! Comment! Support! Let them (and NBC) know that we're out here! (In a good way, of course!)
